Spanish defence technology group EM&E is set to supply the Portuguese Navy with a range of Sentinel weapon stations for its surface fleet.
Under the terms of the newly announced deal, arranged via the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), EM&E Group will supply the Portuguese Navy with 47 weapon stations.
The guns will be a mixture of its Sentinel 2.0 12.7mm calibre and Sentinel 30 30mm systems.
The firm noted: “The supply of EM&E Group naval weapon stations to the Portuguese Navy demonstrates the company’s commitment to developing technological solutions that reinforce European strategic sovereignty and proves that the capabilities of these systems meet NATO’s technical and operational needs and requirements.
“This contract also consolidates EM&E Group’s trajectory in the naval field.”
The NSPA, which has its headquarters in Luxembourg, acts as a cross-domain joint acquisition and lifecycle management agency for NATO.
EM&E Group’s naval systems are already installed on several Spanish Navy warships; it described the new NSPA-brokered Portuguese deal as a “milestone” and “a strategic step for the company.”
