Splash Industries has just launched a new Airstrike Pack enabling its Typhoon uncrewed surface vessel (USV) to launch aerial one-way attack drones.
The Typhoon is a 3.3-metre waterjet-propelled USV capable of speeds of up to 70 knots and an operational range of up to 800 nautical miles. Level 4 autonomy is provided by its internally developed Splash C2 suite.
On social media the firm this week stated: “We’re excited to announce the Airstrike Pack for the Typhoon Drone-boat.
“This mission module for Typhoon USVs allows operators to deploy one-way aerial assets with the press of a button in Splash C2. Already operationally-tested during a force-on-force exercise, this module is unique in its rugged, low-cost nature and extreme ease of use thanks to in-house electronics and software.”
At the U.S. Navy’s latest iteration of its biennial RIMPAC exercise this summer, a Typhoon USV docked itself into the well deck of U.S. Navy Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex while underway.
In June the firm launched its Tempest USV, an upscaled version of the same waterjet-powered vessel.
It offers a 0.75-ton payload capacity, a range of 300 nautical miles, and a top speed of 35 knots. It can operate in conditions up to Sea State 6, where waves can reach up to six metres high.
