German autonomy firm Quantum Systems has just launched a maritime drone suite including a new uncrewed surface vessel (USV) and uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV).
Its self-styled “Maritime Solution” system-of-system approach includes its new Subvex UUV and Seavex USV, and associated aerial drones.
The firm stated: “Quantum Systems Maritime Solution enables naval and security forces to execute a wide range of maritime missions through autonomous collaboration, distributed sensing and AI-powered mission orchestration.
“Operating as a coordinated multi-domain swarm, autonomous aerial, surface and underwater assets continuously adapt to evolving mission requirements while maintaining a common operational picture.”
It added: “From seabed to sky, operators gain the awareness, persistence and decision superiority required for modern maritime operations.”
Seavex is an uncrewed surface vessel (USV) designed to act as an operational uncrewed mission hub.
The 8.5m by 6.5m platform offers up to two months of endurance, with a maximum payload of 400kg, while it usually cruises at 3 knots, it is capable of a maximum speed of 15 knots.
It can autonomously deploy uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) either for persistent ISR missions or interceptors for counter-drone (C-UAS) purposes.
The drone carries a medium-range multi-sensor electro-optic tracker and laser rangefinder, a 4D anti-drone radar with a range of 15nm, a 2D surveillance radar with 48nm range, and colour and forward-looking infrared (FLIR) cameras.
Designed to fit into a torpedo tube, Subvex is a 4.2-metre uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV) intended to offer underwater intelligence by combining deep-sea endurance, onboard AI processing and subsea sensing.
It offers four-day endurance between dockings, can carry a 20kg payload, and can operate at depths of up to 6,000 metres. It cruises at 3 knots but can reach 8 knots when needed. It has side-scan sonar with a 1,000-metre range, a hydrophone array, and forward imaging sonar.
As per the manufacturer: “While capable of operating independently, Subvex delivers its greatest operational value as part of a coordinated underwater intelligence network. Multiple Subvex systems can collaborate as an autonomous underwater mesh, distributing sensing tasks, sharing intelligence and extending coverage across vast maritime areas.”
The systems are all controlled via the firm’s AI-powered Mosaic UXS mission control and command software designed to coordinate a range of uncrewed aerial and maritime systems and fuse data feeds from them into a common operational picture.
