The Ministry of Defence has held a naming ceremony for KRI Belati, the Indonesian Navy’s new fast attack craft.
The 60-metre multi-purpose warship is capable of a top speed of 30 knots and is armed with Roketsan’s Atmaca surface-to-surface missiles. Another Turkish firm, Havelsan, has supplied the vessel’s Advent combat management system.
The warship has been built by the PT Tesco Indomaritim shipyard in Babelan,West Java. Her name translates as “Dagger” and she is also armed with a Leonardo Marlin 40 remotely controlled 40mm cannon.
The naming ceremony for the new vessel was staged at the start of the month in Mutiara Beach on the Indonesian island of Bintan, led by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali. He commented: “The name ‘Dagger’ philosophically symbolizes precision, courage, and agility.”
He added: “The production of this 60-metre fast missile boat is a historic milestone that not only aims to strengthen the Indonesian Navy’s defence equipment, but also has a strategic impact on realizing the independence of the defense industry and increasing the nation’s competitiveness on the global stage.”
As well as Advent, the new warship also features Havelsan’s Fleetstar data distribution system. The firm noted: “During the extensive sea trials and live-fire tests, both systems performed exceptionally, successfully completing all phases of operational validation. Havelsan engineers provided on-site support throughout the testing process.”
CEO Dr. Mehmet Akif Nacar observed: “This achievement reflects not only the technological excellence of Havelsan but also the strong strategic partnership we are building with Indonesia.
“The successful integration of Advent and Fleetstar demonstrates Türkiye’s capability to deliver advanced, network-centric naval systems on a global scale.”
Havelsan is also cooperating with the Indonesian Navy on a number of other upcoming naval programs, including additional KCR-60 / KCR-70 class vessels and its new frigate Merah Putih, a variant of the Babcock Arrowhead 140 platform forming the basis of the Royal Navy’s new Type 31 frigates and the Polish Miecznik programme.
