Ukrainian forces have carried out drone strikes on a Russian naval corvette and an oil terminal in St Petersburg.

Timed to coincide with a prestigious annual business fair, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the strikes were carried out yesterday (Wednesday). The joint operation was executed by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), the Unmanned Systems Forces, special operations soldiers, and others.

As per an SSU press statement, one of the targets was the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal, one of the biggest such oil facilities in the Baltic region.

It noted: “After travelling approximately 1,100 kilometres, the drones hit the tank farm area, where at least four large fires were reported.”

The other target was the Russian Navy guided missile corvette Boikiy, undergoing maintenance in a dry dock at the nearby Kronstadt Naval Base.

Video footage posted on social media by its 414 Magyar’s Birds drone unit, showed two drone strikes on the 104-metre Steregushchy-class warship, commissioned in 2013.

The Ukrainian statement noted: “The results of the strike and the extent of the damage inflicted on the enemy are currently being assessed.”

It added: “The longer Russia chooses war over peace, the more frequently the facilities funding it will burn.”
