Navantia will provide life-cycle support for TCG Anadolu, the Turkish Navy’s 27,000-ton, 232-metre amphibious assault ship.
Under the terms of a new deal agreed last week between the Spanish shipbuilder and Turkish Naval Shipyards General Directorate (TGM), Navantia will provide maintenance and repair services, on-site and remote technical support, and training.
The initial deal stretches for three years, with a built-in flexibility option to renew it for a further three years. The agreement builds on an existing spares supply contract which has been in place since 2023.
The Spanish firm said the new deal was “consolidating a successful and ongoing relationship between Navantia and TGM.”
A modified variant of the landing helicopter dock (LHD) design used for Spanish Navy flagship Juan Carlos I, Navantia also licensed the design, technology transfer and equipment to Turkiye’s Sedef Shipyard for the production of TCG Anadolu.
Its capabilities were on display earlier this year when in February as part of Steadfast Dart 26, NATO’s largest military exercise this year staged in northern Germany, TCG Anadolu was a key component of its centrepiece amphibious demonstration.
As well as disembarking amphibious craft, a Bayraktar TB-3 uncrewed aerial system (UAS) took off from its flight deck for ISR. During an earlier part of the same exercise it had successfully carried out a strike mission on a sea-based surface target with MAM-L munitions.
