The minesweeper ORP Druzno is back with the Polish Navy after repairs and upgrades to the warship were completed almost a month faster than anticipated.

Both the ship’s propulsion system and its mine countermeasures (MCM) systems were upgraded as part of a comprehensive package of works carried out by PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, the Polish Naval Shipyard in Gdynia.

As per a PGZ press statement, works on the warship, part of the Polish Navy’s 12th Wolin Minesweeper Squadron, were finished on Monday, three weeks ahead of schedule, and the vessel is ready to return to normal operations.

Project manager Karol Denc commented: “Today’s early delivery of the ship is the result of efficient work organization and the commitment of the entire project team. The scope of work included both standard repair work and the expansion of the vessel’s operational capabilities.”

The minesweeper had previously undergone an extensive refit between 2017 and 2019, including getting equipped with new underwater vehicles, to allow her to form part of the standing NATO mine countermeasures team SNMCMG1.

The latest upgrades include improved explosives storage facilities and fire suppression mechanisms, a new embarked workboat which can operate underwater vehicles, and improved video cameras and communications systems.

Living quarters for the crew have also been improved as part of the refit, along with ventilation upgrades and enhanced ventilation systems.
