The Royal Navy is set to equip its submarines with new survival equipment from Beaufort giving sailors the ability to escape boats in distress from depths of up to 300 metres.

The British survival equipment specialist has won a Submarine Escape and Survival Equipment (SESE) contract from the U.K. Ministry of Defence (MoD) to equip the RN’s submarine fleet with its next-generation Resolute suits.

The contract, awarded by the MoD’s Submarine Delivery Agency, will see the suits provided on both new submarines currently under construction and on the existing Astute and Vanguard-class boats.

The firm’s recent press statement noted: “The new Resolute SESE represents a significant advancement in submarine escape capability.”

It said the Resolute SESE also features an integrated single-seat liferaft which supports up to 72 hours of surface survival.

The company’s CEO Dominic Cartwright commented: “This contract win reflects the confidence placed in Beaufort’s ability to deliver critical survival capability where it matters most.”

And Sub-Sea Category Manager Steve Thorpe added: “Resolute delivers a more reliable and efficient escape suit, designed to maximise survivability from depth to surface recovery.”

The company, which supplies escape systems to more than 30 countries worldwide, also plans to market its Resolute system to the navies of more allied nations in the years ahead.
