Thomas Reitan

Department Head Operational ASW, Royal Norwegian Navy Maritime Warfare Center

In 2024, Thomas Reitan was promoted to Commander and assumed the role of head of Operational Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) at the Maritime Warfare Center. His department is responsible for conducting ASW courses, coordinating with Norwegian frigates, and developing ASW tactics and procedures.

Thomas grew up on Frøya, an island west of Trondheim, Norway. He joined the Norwegian Armed Forces in 2010, serving in the Norwegian Border Guard in Kirkenes, where he worked as a patrol leader along the Norwegian-Russian border during his conscription.

From 2011 to 2012, he completed the NCO school and then served as a Sergeant and instructor in the training company at the Norwegian Border Guard. In 2014, he relocated to Bergen to attend the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy, earning a bachelor's degree in Military Leadership, Military Navigation, and Maritime Operations.

In 2017, Thomas began sailing as a Navigation Officer on frigates, gaining extensive experience with most of the Norwegian frigates and participating in a variety of national and international exercises, including FOST and SNMG1. In 2022, he completed the PWO ASW course at the Maritime Warfare Center and served as PWO-Underwater aboard Norwegian frigates.

Thomas is married to Katrine, and they have two boys. The family resides in Bergen and enjoys spending their free time on outdoor activities, including camping trips, hiking, and fishing.
