Sophia Blix
Sophia Blix commenced in the role of Assistant Director-General - Non-Proliferation and Safeguards on the Nuclear Powered Submarine Taskforce in September 2021 and then in the Australian Submarine Agency when it was established in July 2023. From September to December 2024, Sophia performed the role of Head Stewardship and Security for the Australian Submarine Agency.
Prior to these roles, Sophia worked at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet as the Assistant Secretary Australian Public Service Reform in 2020 and at the Department of Defence as the Assistant Secretary Enterprise Reform from 2019-2020.
Sophia was Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Defence from 2017-2018 and prior to that was the Director of Strategy and Communications for the Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative.
Sophia joined the Department of Defence in 2012 when she commenced working for International Policy Division. Sophia was responsible for developing strategic policy relating to the Australia-United States alliance and operational policy relating to Australia’s military commitments in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Sophia deployed to the United Arab Emirates in 2015-16 as policy advisor to the Australian commander of Australia’s Joint Task Force. In 2016, Sophia worked as the Senior Defence Liaison Officer to the Minister of Defence.
Sophia joined the Australian Public Service as a graduate at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Prior to the joining the public service, she worked as a commercial lawyer in Sydney. Sophia has a Bachelor of Arts/Laws from the Australian National University.
