From Llantwit Major in South Wales, Lt Jones studied Mechanical Engineering at Exeter University where he joined the UOTC and got a taste for Service life. On graduating he transferred to the Royal Engineers where he worked as a full-time reservist for a year while waiting for his application to the Royal Navy to be processed.

Starting BRNC in Jan 2017 as a MESM he gained his Dolphins in 2019 with HMS TALENT and TRENCHANT. Having since transferred to the MEGS Branch, he has spent time in training roles with HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH and PROTECTOR before completing his DMEO time in HMS NORTHUMBERLAND where he gained his MCQ. He joined FOST in Oct 23 as SDCO6 and has since provided both training and assurance in a variety of RN, RFA and International platforms.
