Malcolm McKenzie joined the Royal Navy in 1983 as a Weapons Mechanic. He was selected for Artificer training in 1986 before being commissioned in 1989 as an Aircrew officer. He has served on front line operations at sea across the majority of the globe flying the Sea King Mk2 AEW and Mk7 Airborne Surveillance and Control aircraft from all 3 of the RN’s Invincible Class carriers. He returned to the UK in 1992 as the lead warfare instructor responsible for delivering advanced flying training to ab-initio aircrew. Selected for Principal Warfare Officer (Above Water) training, on completion he served as the 1st Frigate Squadron Operations Officer where he was involved in Operation Desert Fox, embarked with Captain F1 in HMS Boxer, conducting sanctions enforcement off the coast of Iraq. Senior appointments have seen him command both aviation and surface units. A graduate of the NATO ACSC he holds a degree in Middle East Relations from King’s College London. His final military appointment was as Strategic Policy and Plans Director, seconded into NATO HQ from Allied Command Transformation HQ. Post his military service he worked as the Maritime Director at the Port of Dover before accepting senior positions with UK and international defence industries. He is a keen naval historian and a enjoys spending time in his garden
