He graduated from the Republic of Korea Naval Academy in 1995 and received his master's and doctorate degrees in military strategy from the National Defense University of Korea. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Warfare College in 2014. He is a surface warfare officer and has experienced several battles with the North Korean Navy during his service. He is
currently serving as the commander of the 52nd Mine Warfare Command of the Republic of Korea Navy, and plans and conducts the ROK-US joint mine warfare training and
multinational mine warfare training every year. His areas of interest include manned and unmanned mine warfare systems, submarine warfare, and conflicts between nations at sea.
