Joan Farnós
Head of Dual-use Technologies at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and hosts its position at the Computer Applications in Science and Engineering Department (CASE). He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (UPC-BarcelonaTech) and has >15 years of experience in R&D execution and leadership. He has been R&D Mechanical Engineer at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC-BarcelonaTech), CEO of the SME CFD/HPC consulting company Termo Fluids S.L., and Head of the
Thermal Engineering Division at Eurecat, Technological Centre of Catalonia, before being engaged at BSC. Dr. Farnós has been involved in >50 private, national and EU financially supported projects. His main research lines are: conventional and alternative energy sources, technological foresight, Emerging and Disruptive Technologies (EDTs), High Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), numerical methods and simulation, multi-physics analysis, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, propulsion technologies, and innovation. Finally, Dr. Farnós serves as independent expert for the European Commission driven Horizon Europe programme and is part of the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Independent Scientific Evaluation Group (ISEG). Additionally, since 2023 he is representing Spain in NATO Science & Technology Organization (STO) groups in the field of high
fidelity simulation.
