Jānis Auce
Born on June 4, 1979, in Cēsis, Latvia, Janis Auce is a dedicated military professional with extensive experience in naval operations. Currently residing in Liepāja, Latvia, he is married and has devoted over two decades to service in the Latvian National Armed Forces.
He began his military career in 1997, enlisting in the Latvian Navy. He completed officer training in Germany from 1998 to 2001. Afterwards, he served in various roles aboard, including onboard the STROM class Fast Patrol Boat, progressing from Gunnery Officer to Executive Officer and ultimately Commanding Officer. His leadership capabilities led to positions within the Navy's planning department, where he served as a Planning Officer from 2006 to 2008 and later as the Commander of the Patrol Boat Division.
Between 2010 and 2015, he was Deputy Commander of the Mine Warfare Squadron and, from 2015 to 2019, Head of the Navy Planning Department. He also represented the Latvian military in NATO and EU discussions in Brussels until 2022, when he became Commander of the Latvian Mine Warfare Squadron.
In addition to his military training, he holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Management, obtained in 2007. He has furthered his education through various military courses, including the Command and General Staff Course at the Baltic Defense College in Estonia.
Over the years, he has been promoted through the ranks, achieving the rank of Commander Senior Grade by 2017. His international assignments include participation in operations such as the contra piracy operation ATLANTA in 2014. Appointment to Baltic states Naval squadron BALTRON PSO in 2013 and twice as squadron commander COMBALTRON 2015 and 2023.
