Francisco Antón Brage

Deputy Director for Engineering, Spanish Navy

Born in Ferrol in 1967, he joined the Naval Academy in August 1987, obtaining the rank of Lieutenant Jr Grade in July 1992.

His first assignment was the frigate “Baleares” as Damage Control Officer and later on as Deck Officer.

In 2000 he got a Master´s Degree in Naval Architecture, joining the Navy Engineering Corp.

As a Naval Architect, between 2000 and 2013 he had different responsibilities related to the acquisition programmes of F100 frigates, Norwegian frigates and the F105 frigate.

In 2013 he was assigned to the Industrial Division of Ferrol Naval Base as Head of the Weapons Branch, being responsible for the maintenance of the weapons systems on-board the ships supported by the Arsenal, the light torpedoes and the anti-aircraft missiles.

Between 2015 and 2018, he held the position of Risk Management Chief Officer at the Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation (OCCAR), supporting international programmes such as the A400M tactical and strategic airlifter, the TIGER helicopter, the FREMM frigates, the BOXER multi-role armoured vehicle or the MALE-RPAS (Medium Altitude Long Endurance Remotely Piloted Aircraft System.

As Captain (Navy), he was assigned to the Deputy Directorate for Programmes of the General Directorate for Armament and Materiel as Programme Manager of Maritime Action Vessels (OPV) and Logistics Transport Vessels for the Army.

Between 2020 and 2023 he was the Head of Maintenance Division at Ferrol Naval Base, being responsible for maximizing the availability of the systems on-board, among others, the F100 frigates, the Combat Support Vessels (BAC) or the OPV Class “SERVIOLA”.

Since November 2023, he has been assigned to the Engineering and Naval Construction Directorate of the Logistics Support Command as Deputy Director for Engineering. In May 2024 was promoted to the rank of rear admiral.

He has completed various specialization courses in the area of ​​knowledge of project/programme management, among which the Master´s Degree in Defence Systems Acquisition Management stands out.
