CAPT (N) Eike Wetters joined the German Navy in July 1984. He served in several seagoing posts on ASW Corvettes and Frigates before joining the 39th Advanced Staff and Command Course at the Bundeswehr Staff and Command College in Hamburg. On completion in 1999, CAPT Wetters saw two appointments abroad as Executive Assistant to ACOS Strategy and ACOS CIS at HQ SACLANT, followed by service as Executive Officer on a Frigate from 2001 to 2003. After two years at the Operations Branch, MOD Armed Forces Staff, in Berlin, he held command of the Frigate SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN from 2005 to 2007, followed by appointments at the Bundeswehr Human Resources Office and, from 2008 – 2010, as Deputy Head of faculty of the Navy Department and Senior Lecturer for maritime Strategy, Doctrines and C2 at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College. In 2010, he took command of the 2nd Frigate Squadron until 2012. Different staff appointments followed, including as Branch Head Future Capability Development at the German Navy HQ, as Department Head Future Capability Development at the Federal Armed Forces Planning Office, and Department Head Plans and Policy, again at the German Navy HQ.
Since 2018, he has served as Executive Director of the NATO Center of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters in Kiel.
