Ed is a Naval Architect with over 25 years of experience in the defence industry working for a variety of employers including BMT, Thales, Babcock, Harland & Wolff and his most recent role with QinetiQ. In addition, Ed has carried out extensive work in the UK MoD’s Naval Design Partnering Team. He has been involved in a wide variety of vessel acquisition programmes including submarines, aircraft carriers, frigates, mine warfare vessels and auxiliaries both in the UK and overseas. Ed has a strong background in wholeship concept design, but has experience across the full project lifecycle, and has held a number of senior technical leadership positions such as Chief Engineer and Technical Authority for development of these vessels. Ed’s exposure to a number of different ship acquisition and development models, both at national and company levels, means that he is well placed to provide opinion on the balance of risk between bespoke design development and adoption and modification of pre-existing designs
