A General Service Weapons Engineer Officer for nearly 30 years, Dave Jones joined the Type 31 programme in 2020, initially in a leading role delivering this new capability to the Royal Navy before focussing upon developing international partnerships. Previous appointments span capability acquisition, equipment support, and training, with successful delivery of Change and Continuous Improvement becoming consistent themes. More recently the Staff Weapons Engineer Officer for the Devonport and Surface Flotillas, he implemented the Type 23 Forward Deployed frigate project whilst guiding operational engineering activity in

frigate, amphibious and survey vessels. Sea appointments included deployments to the North and South Atlantic, Gulf, Arabian Sea and Mediterranean as well as two refit periods. Ashore, he completed an operational tour in Iraq, and has spent many years in Defence Equipment & Support, notably the Maritime Gunnery Group, but also leading the project to re-power the Type 23 frigates. Other appointments included training young officers at Dartmouth, as well as delivering Capability to the frontline, Information Systems, and Training. Promoted in 2023, he transferred from T31 Requirements Manager to a new role developing

and overseeing international collaboration that exploits the opportunities of the Arrowhead / Type 31 design.
