Maritime Component Command Commander, Romanian Navy

Rear Admiral (LH) Auraş - Liviu COMAN is a native of M. Kogalniceanu, Constanta, and graduated from the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” Naval Military High School. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Navigation from “Mircea cel Bătrân” Naval Academy, Constanta, a Master’s degree in Information and Military Science from the Romanian National Defense University, and a Ph.D. in Information and National Security from the Romanian National Defense University.


Coman`s operational assignments at sea consist of service onboard corvettes as a Navigation Officer, Weapons System Engineer, and Operations Officer. He was appointed as Commanding Officer of Fast Torpedo Boat and Corvette ROS Macellariu. His staff assignments include: Assistant COS N3 Officer in the Multinational Operations Planning Department, Head of Standardization and Lessons Learned Department, Chief of Staff and Commanding Officer of Corvette Squadron, DCOM MARCOM and DCOM Fleet Commander.


He graduated the Navigation Specialist course, Weapons Systems Course, Staff Officers Course, Allied Joint Operations Staff Officers Course, NATO Staff Orientation Officers Course at NATO-School, Oberammergau, NATO Military Terminology Instructors Course, NATO/Partner Operational Staff Officers Course - NATO-School Oberammergau, Course for Planners and Executors of Naval Operations on the Law of Armed Conflict - San Remo, Italy, and the NATO Maritime Operation Language Seminar.


In 2016 he graduated from the Naval Command College, United States Naval War College. He was awarded with the Robert E. Batemans International prize. His awards include the Navy “Emblem of Honor”, “Maritime Virtue” Order in the rank of Knight, Emblem of Honor of the Romanian Army, Emblem of Honor of the Joint Forces Command, Order of "Maritime Virtue" in the rank of Officer, Emblem of Honor of the Land Forces, Emblem of Honor of Communications and Informatics, Emblem of Honor of the Special Operations Forces, and Emblem of Merit "In the service of the Romanian Army". Starting with December 2021 he is appointed as Chief of the Naval Forces’ Deputy for Operations & Training. On July 1st, 2022, he was assigned as Chief of the Naval Forces’ Deputy for Operations & Training. Starting with 1st of December 2022 he was appointed Deputy Chief of the Romanian Naval Forces.
