Artem Sherbinin is an active duty Surface Warfare Officer currently serving as the inaugural Chief Technology Officer at Task Force Hopper, under U.S. Naval Surface Forces Command. He was born in Kyiv, Ukraine and immigrated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his parents in 2001. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and holds an M.A. in national security policy from Georgetown University. Artem's operational tours include three deployments to the Western Pacific; most recently, he served as a cruiser navigator, and as lead air defense planner for the USS NIMITZ Carrier Strike Group. His shore assignments were in the defense innovation community, and include co-founding the U.S. Surface Navy's first-ever data science team, founding the U.S. Navy's artificial intelligence cross-functional team, and support for the Office of Undersecretary the Secretary of Defense for Intelligence "Project Maven." Artem frequently publishes on national security and technology topics, and is a Shawn Brimley Next Generation National Security Fellow at the Center for New American Security. He owes his success to an incredible group of mentors and Sailors of all ranks.
