Andrew graduated in Applied Physics and began working in Thales as an electronics engineer in 1986. He was responsible for the introduction of new technologies into thermal imagers such as embedded processing and FPGA’s, deployed into programmes such as Phalanx (USA). He went on to lead the electronics and mechanical disciplines across the UK, before moving into the Technical Directorate where he held several posts, leading technology development for future projects. Andrew’s current role of Chief Technologist for Algorithms & Processing, started in 2016 when AI became a practical prospect for defence products. His team are researching ways to maximise AI across the land, sea and air domains.
