Born 1983 in Basingstoke Stephen was raised in Plymouth attending Plymstock Secondary School and Duchy College prior to joining the Royal Navy in 2005. Upon completion of initial training at BRNC and sea training in HMS Dumbarton Castle, his first appointment was to HMS Victorious as the Correspondence Officer. This 2 year appointment included the final stages of her Long Overhaul Period (Refuel) (LOP(R)), sea trials, work up, Demonstration And Shakedown Operation (DASO) and deterrent patrol. On return he was appointed to Intermediate Warfare Course (IWC).
Successfully completing IWC and with valuable DASO experience he was appointed to HMS Vigilant as Navigation Officer. This again included the final stages of LOP(R), through sea trials, work up and DASO. Returning to the UK he attended Principal Warfare Officer course (Submarine).
In 2013 he assumed the position of Tactical Systems Officers aboard HMS Talent and completed Operations in the East of Suez and Atlantic.
Successfully completing Submarine Command Course in 2015, he joined HMS Vanguard as Executive Officer to complete her WESTLANT deployment and deliver her to Devonport. He then moved to HMS Trenchant, completing a full regeneration and proceeding on to operations and exercises including ICEX 18.
He moved to RNSMS as OIC warfare in 2018. Selected for promotion and Command, he assumed the role of Commanding Officer of HMS Trenchant in 2020 during C-19, delivering operations through the period as one of 2 VHR SMs. Subsequently he assumed Command of HMS Vengeance delivering BMP 8D to time before deploying on deterrent operations operating as the ready SSBN 2022-2023. On successful completion of both Commands, he was assigned to NCHQ as the capability lead for Inservice SM (Ops) and subsequently seconded to industry within the autonomy area working for MSUBS. Electing to leave the RN in 2026 Stephen has taken on the new challenge of Stark Maritime Director for Business Development and Operations.
His spare time is spent with his young family in Plymouth and when possible, sailing, cycling and watching rugby.
