Head of Naval Systems, Swedish FMV
Fredrik was born and raised in the south of Sweden – Malmö. He joined the Royal Swedish Navy as a conscript in 1991, graduated from the Swedish Officers Academy in 1994 and then went on to serve on various submarines, with a few interruptions, until 2004. In 2005 Fredrik graduated from Linnaeus University with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nautical Science and was then awarded his first command – HSwMS Gotland, at the time stationed in San Diego, California. After his first command tour, two more followed in succession – the HSwMS Uppland and HSwMS Halland. The following period focused on academics during which Fredrik graduated from Swedish Defense College with a Master’s degree in War Studies, a Diploma in National Security, Strategy & Policy Making from the US Naval War College (NSC) and finally a Master’s degree in International Relations – Political Science from Salve Regina University Newport Rhode Island USA. His shore assignments after his time in the US included Royal Swedish Navy Staff Plans (M5) and ISAF J2X (CO Swe NIC). Fredrik then went back to serve as Submarine Squadron Leader and by the summer of 2016 he was posted to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration as International Submarine Advisor. By 2018 Fredrik got a posting at the Navy Staff as Head of Section – Personnel and Training. He was promoted to Captain (N) the summer of 2019 and thereafter Fredrik held the position as Head of the Plans Department at the Navy Staff. In June 2020 he assumed command over 1st Submarine Flotilla, a position he held until June 2023. During a ceremony in July 2023 Fredrik was appointed Rear Admiral (RDML) and became Director Naval Systems Division at Swedish Defence Materiel Administration.
