Associate Professor Per Haavardtun is employed with the University of Southeastern Norway institute of Maritime Operations. He has wide experience in the maritime industry working as a seafarer, port captain and consultancies with port and ship security. He main research is, focusing on how maritime operations will be affected due to digitalisation, automatization of tasks and units including steps towards autonomy. He is also into research on simulation-based teaching and training to see if new technologies can enhance the competence students and course attendees will have after completed training.
