Capability Manager – Security of Navigation, Stabilisation Advice and Training, UKHO
Paul enlisted into the British Army at 16 years of age with the intention of serving no more than 3 years. Twenty-five years later he had completed a full and varied career in uniform, serving in many parts of the world and deploying on operations undertaken by the UK, UN and NATO. Having initially completed a two-year apprenticeship as a telegraphist, he undertook a number of roles mainly focused on information management & security. He was recruited by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) in 2013 into a training management role. Primarily his work focused on the design, delivery and management of Allied Worldwide Navigation Information System (AWNIS) training to enable operational Freedom of Navigation (FON) & Freedom of Manoeuvre (FOM) decision support to Front Line Commands (FLCs). This role has evolved over the past twelve years. Paul and the UKHO’s Security Of Navigation, Stabilisation Advice and Training (SONSAT) capability have developed a wide network of expertise from all areas of the maritime domain. Utilising such an impressive array of expertise, they now deliver decision support across national, international, civilian and military organisations under a Civil/Military (CIMIC) umbrella. Paul intends to evolve the capability once again to meet current and rapidly evolving geopolitical situations. Paul lives in the West of England with his partner & pets. He enjoys cycling, mountaineering, socialising and following his local football team.
