Terry Gibson left the Royal Navy in 2011 after serving for 28 years as a Weapon Engineer Officer in a variety of Operational theatres and warships. In shore appointments he was charged with managing complex programmes and delivering instruction to the Staff Officer course at Shrivenham.
On leaving the Royal Navy in 2011 he took up the position as Head of Complex Programmes in Navy Command Headquarters, Portsmouth. Responsibilities were for developing and delivering a variety of digital projects and capabilities for the frontline and evolving new and agile approaches for improving delivery timelines and outputs.
June 2022, Terry moved up into a new position as the crown representative for the Maritime Domain Awareness Programme as the Director. In this role he Supports First Sea Lord (1SL), Commander Operations (COMOPS) and Navy Digital for developing and delivering Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) effects and capabilities across the globe on behalf of the Royal Navy. The Maritime Domain Awareness Programme is recognised at the highest levels of government being a key pillar to support Maritime Security Operations, Economic Security and Safety of Life at Sea. This is conducted across the globe supporting both allies and partner nations and organisations. It has oversight of discrete MDA Operational outputs including, United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (Middle East), Maritime Domain Awareness Trade – Gulf of Guinea and directly supporting Royal Navy Vessels deployed both within the UK Marine Area or on global Operations.
The RN MDA model developed by Terry is now an integral component of the National Strategy for Maritime Security (NSMS) and recent Strategic Defence Review (SDR).
Terry is married with three grown up children, and his first grandchild. He is an avid golfer and ‘leisure’ runner.
