Director for Submarine Support Engineering Services, Babcock International
Mike Robinson is Director Submarine Support Engineering in Babcock Naval Nuclear. He is responsible for delivering Vanguard and Astute Classes In-Service Submarine whole boat, platform and combat systems engineering analysis; submarine maintenance portfolio planning and programming; digital information knowledge management solutions and services; and input into the
design of future submarines, including Dreadnought and SSNA Classes. In so doing, he works for and very collaboratively with the UK Ministry of Defence’s Submarine Delivery Agency with the intent to
improve submarine safety, availability and capability.
Prior to joining Babcock, Mike served in the Royal Navy for 33 years as a Submarine Marine Engineer Officer, including 3 appointments at sea onboard Trafalgar Class submarines. Whilst his career
focused on In-Service Submarine Support appointments, he also had sojourns into Nuclear Propulsion, Fleet Operations and Defence Resources and Plans. On promotion to Commodore in 2014, he became the Defence Nuclear Safety Regulator, regulating the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme, the Nuclear Weapon Programme and those sites exempt from civil nuclear regulation.
Thereafter, he was Head of In-Service Submarines for 5½ years where he was responsible for the safety and environmental protection, systems and equipment integration and through-life support of all Royal Navy In-Service submarines; for the delivery of submarine material availability and capability to the Royal Navy; for all stages of the submarine decommissioning and disposal programme; and for strategic nuclear infrastructure development in Devonport.
