Chris joined the British Army in 1985 within the Royal Engineer’s Geospatial trade. He was commissioned in 2006 and left the Army in 2021 having gained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He conducted operational tours in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Iraq, Northern Ireland and Afghanistan. Chris has 20 years’ experience as a military geospatial technician and 15-years’ managing intelligence production and technical delivery of GEOINT capability to Defence. In 2003, he deployed to the UK National Contingent Command for Op TELIC 1; Chris was subsequently awarded the MBE for geospatial service to that operation and partaking in the planning for it. He is qualified with an MSc in GEOINT and an HND in Cartography.
Chris joined the UK Hydrographic Office in 2021 as a Technical Specialist in the Littoral and Riverine Team. This team supports the UK Royal Marines in planning and the conduct of amphibious operations and works closely with FVEYs and NATO partners. Following promotion, he is currently a Defence Product and Service Manager and is the UKHO primary lead for engagement with the UK Commandos.
Married to Liz, they have two adult children, one of whom is a Troop Commander in the Royal Engineers. His spare time is spent on Dartmoor and, when at home, attempting to keep his classic car, a 1970 Triumph TR6, roadworthy.
