Simon Stevens is Chair of the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency. He is a crossbench_x000d_
member of the House of Lords with an interest in maritime and defence issues._x000d_
Simon is also incoming Chair of the governing council of King’s College London; a_x000d_
director of the Commonwealth Fund of New York; and Chair of Cancer Research UK._x000d_
His public roles have included Senior Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister at 10 Downing_x000d_
Street, and seven years as Chief Executive of NHS England. Previously he spent a decade_x000d_
as a CEO in the private sector internationally, running insurance and global emergency_x000d_
assistance services._x000d_
Educated at Oxford, Strathclyde and Columbia universities, Simon is married with two_x000d_
children and is a keen offshore sailor. He is a member of the Royal College of Defence_x000d_
Studies, and previously completed the Royal Navy & British Army sections of the Armed_x000d_
Forces Parliamentary Scheme. Awarded a knighthood for public service in 2020, he was_x000d_
raised to the peerage by HM the Queen in 2021.
