Personal Profile

Chris joined the Royal Navy in February 2000 as an artificer apprentice. After a short deployment on the Type 23 frigate HMS Argyll to the South Atlantic conducting operations off Sierra Leone, Chris joined the Submarine Service in 2004 attaining his prestigious dolphins later that year.

With assignments on Vanguard class submarines as a Marine Engineer, Chris has served in multiple roles in supporting the Continuous at Sea Deterrent. The most notable was a test firing of the Trident Missile system whilst conducting DASO operations off the eastern seaboard of the USA.

Working his way through the various ranks of the Royal Navy, Chris was promoted to Warrant Officer 1 in 2020 and to the rank of Lieutenant in 2025. He is an experienced Nuclear Engineer and has held the post of a Nuclear Supervisor for the past 14 years.

Shore roles have included assignments in the Submarine Delivery Agency, Nuclear Propulsion Design Authority, Assurance Warrant Officer and an instructor in the Nuclear Training School.

At present he is the Deputy UK Submarine Escape Rescue and Abandonment (SMERAS) within Navy Command Headquarters. A position that holds responsibility for the conduct of assurance inspections on all platforms to ensure all escape /rescue systems are safe for sea going operations. The majority of the role includes updating policy and the procurement of new equipment and resources into the UK SMERAS domain.

Chris lives in Sheffield and is married to the long-suffering Amanda. They have one child Ethan and his faithful dog Buster.
