Joseph Abeyta

Lieutenant Commander Joseph “Bert” Abeyta, USCG (Ret.) is the Director of Business Development for Government Programs at Teledyne FLIR Maritime Inc., where he leads strategic initiatives supporting global maritime security and defense operations. He brings over two decades of distinguished service in the United States Coast Guard, where he held command of both Station Miami and Group Cape Hatteras—two of the service’s most operationally demanding units. His operational experience includes a key assignment with Operation Bahamas, Turks and Caicos (OPBAT), where he coordinated multinational counter-narcotics and search and rescue missions in one of the busiest maritime transit zones in the Western Hemisphere. He also served at U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), where he played a pivotal role in Foreign Military Sales (FMS), strengthening maritime partnerships across Latin America and the Caribbean and advancing regional maritime capacity through international cooperation. LCDR Abeyta’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, five Coast Guard Commendation Medals, three Coast Guard Achievement Medals, the Ambassador’s Award, and numerous unit-level commendations. He is also the proud recipient of the Captain David Jarvis Inspirational Leadership Award, presented by the U.S. Navy League, recognizing his exceptional leadership and mentorship throughout his career.
