David Morris

David Morris is Chief Operations Officer for the International Association of Search and Rescue Coordinators (IASARC), where he oversees the development of the first professional certification programme for SAR coordinators. David has been involved with IASARC since its inception and has led the multinational team responsible for developing the certification programme, which is scheduled to go live in 2027.

David holds this position alongside his role with His Majesty’s Coastguard (HMCG), where he has served for more than 15 years. He began his career with HMCG as a Coastguard Rescue Officer before joining a Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) as a Maritime Operations Officer. He now serves as Maritime and Aviation Training and Development Manager.

Throughout his career with HMCG, David has held a range of operational and headquarters-based roles, providing experience across frontline SAR operations, coordination, training, development and organisational support.

Prior to his career in SAR, David worked extensively as a powerboat instructor and with a local authority-operated safety boat service. During his time as a powerboat instructor, he served as Chief Instructor at three training centres and also supported the Sea Cadets.

David brings together extensive operational SAR experience, professional training and development expertise, and a strong focus on raising standards and professionalism across the SAR sector.
