PA-Ng Programme Officer, French Navy
Commander Gabriel de Roquefeuil was born in Paris, France, in 1988 into a naval officer’s family. After completing scientific preparatory classes, he joined the French Naval Academy in 2009, specializing in Anti-Surface Warfare.
In 2012, he was assigned as Anti-Surface Warfare Officer on board the frigate Commandant Birot. For two years, he took part in coastal patrol operations, including active participation in counter-drug smuggling missions in the Mediterranean Sea.
In 2014, CDR de Roquefeuil embarked on board the air-defense destroyer Chevalier Paul as Officer of the Watch, then as Principal Warfare Officer. Between 2014 and 2017, he deployed three times as an AAW escort for the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, operating in the Arabian Gulf and the Eastern Mediterranean. During these deployments, he participated in Operation INHERENT RESOLVE, supporting combat operations against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
In 2017, he assumed command of the divers support vessel Achéron. During this tour, he conducted year-long coastal patrols and diving operations throughout the Mediterranean, from France to Israel.
In 2019, after completing the Tactical Action Officer course and the Department Head course at the Combat Systems and Naval Weapons School, he was assigned as Head of the Anti-Surface Warfare Department on board the destroyer Bretagne. He deployed in Anti-Submarine Warfare operations in the Atlantic Ocean and again escorted the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
Following this assignment, CDR de Roquefeuil served as Head of the Anti-Surface Warfare Department on board the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, the flagship of the French Navy. During this period, he deployed twice in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE from both the Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian Gulf. He also participated in Operation NOBLE SHIELD following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, serving as Deputy Anti-Surface Warfare Commander of the French Carrier Strike Group.
Between 2022 and 2024, he was assigned as a Navigation Instructor and French Navy Exchange Officer at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
After completing one year at the War College in Paris, he is currently serving as Programme Officer within the Capability Development Directorate at French Navy Command Headquarters. He is responsible for the future Combat Management Systems of surface ships and also serves as one of the Deputy Programme Officers for the next-generation aircraft carrier.
Commander de Roquefeuil is married to Bénédicte and is the father of four children: Thaïs, Jean, Inès, and Éloi.
He holds the Maritime Merit Medal, the Combatant’s Cross, and the Middle East Medal.
