Head of Maritime Projects, Netherlands COMMIT
Captain Meesters joined the Royal Netherlands Navy in 1991 as midshipman for the engineering branch. After a study Electrical Energy Technology, he joined the fleet and sailed many types of ships in ascending positions to MEO. In between, his shore jobs consisted of technical and project engineering mainly for new-build ships. In 2014, Joost completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course. Besides a brief intermezzo at International Military Cooperation (NATO HQ), the majority of the positions covered the process of providing new materiel. Starting at Navy Plans and Integral Plans at the MOD, then the implementation as senior project manager for the recently commissioned Combat Support Ship, and also ‘aftercare’ as head of het Maintenance Group Capital Ships. Captain Meesters currently holds the position as Head of Maritime Projects at Command Materiel and IT. He lives in a small town near The Hague in the Netherlands. He is married, has two teenagers, and likes to run, ski and ride his motorcycle.
