Captain William “Bill” Miante graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2004 with a bachelor of science in quantitative economics and has a master’s degree in operations management from the University of Arkansas. He flew the SH-60B and the MH-60R with HSL-37. He has also served with HSM-40 and HSM-35. He also previously served on the Joint Staff J-8 Studies, Analysis, and Gaming Division at the Pentagon.
His sea duty assignments include Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 37 (2007-2010 and 2013-2015), HSM 40 (2010-2013), HSM 35 (2015-2017). He was the Air Boss for USS MAKIN ISLAND (LHD 8) from June 2023 to June 2025.
His shore duty assignments include Tactical Air Control Squadron 22 (2020-2023), JCS Washington DC (20182020).
In June 2025, he reported to Task Force SIX THREE / Military Sealift Command Europe and Africa as the Deputy Commodore.
He has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy Commendation Medal (3), Navy Achievement Medal, and various other personal and unit awards.
