Personal Profile

Brigadier Jaimie Norman DSO OBE commissioned into the Royal Marines in 2000 and currently commands the UK Commando Force, a very high readiness crisis response and warfighting formation of just over 4,000 personnel.

As a troop commander from 2001 to 2005 he served at Fleet Protection Group and then 42 Commando. In these roles he deployed on Op TELIC (invasion of Iraq), conducted maritime interdiction operations in the Gulf, and led activity to protect the UK’s nuclear deterrent. He also qualified as a jungle warfare instructor and completed his novice ski and survival course in the Arctic

From 2006 he went on to command within a very high readiness formation at troop, squadron and unit level. In these roles he was deployed overseas and domestically to deliver counter terrorism, global crisis response, counter insurgency, multiagency, and combat operations. This included multiple deployments in Afghanistan, Iraq, Africa, and the Middle East.

Throughout his career Brigadier Norman has held multiple staff appointments, including: at OF5 (Colonel) in No10 Downing Street as the Private Secretary and Military Assistant to the Prime Minister (2020-23); at acting OF5 as Head of Operations for a high readiness formation HQ (2016-17); at OF4 (Lt Col) as the Military Assistant to the Defence Secretary (2014-2016); and at OF3 (Maj) in the MOD’s crisis response cell (2009-11).

In the latter part of his career, he has worked intimately with government agencies, and the UK’s most senior foreign, security, and intelligence officials.

Brigadier Norman completed the Intermediate, Advanced and Higher Command and Staff Courses at the UK Defence Academy and has a master’s degree (distinction) in Defence Studies from King’s College London

He is married to Emma, a tax consultant and tries to keep fit.
