CEO, Cathx Ocean
Dr Adrian Boyle is the CEO of Cathx Ocean and has deep experience in multi sensor perception and automation for subsea operations. With more than 30 years of work in machine vision, sensors and software for autonomous systems, he has guided Cathx from an imaging specialist into a provider of real time, edge-processing and workflow technologies that enable underwater vehicles to detect, classify and understand their environment within a single mission, with an emphasis on consistency and scale.
Adrian’s current work focuses on the practical adoption of autonomy for mine countermeasures and the inspection and protection of critical subsea infrastructure such as pipelines, cables and fibre routes. These operations increasingly rely on rapid access to accurate information, and Cathx’s technologies support this by improving how underwater sensor data is captured, processed and analysed in real time. By enabling more consistent, mission-ready perception from multiple sensors, Cathx aims to help operators reduce redeployments, shorten mission timelines and build greater confidence in the quality of their data. The company’s scalable technology platforms are designed to help AUV manufacturers and users improve mission performance and accelerate autonomy development so systems can become operational more quickly. Before founding Cathx Ocean, Adrian built his career across technical, commercial and leadership roles in companies specialising in advanced optical and data-driven systems. He holds a PhD in Physics from Trinity College Dublin, where he specialised in lasers and non-linear optical systems.
