U.S. Navy Destroyer On Manoeuvres In Eastern Mediterranean
The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Bulkeley has been conducting joint manoeuvres in the eastern Mediterranean with the Cypriot Navy.
The exercise was part of a wider aim to enhance stability and security in the region, as per a recent U.S. Navy press statement.
After the manoeuvres alongside Republic of Cyprus offshore patrol vessel Commodore Andreas loannides, the American vessel docked at Larnaca, Cyprus, to give its crew the opportunity to rest and go ashore.
"This patrol has been a professionally rewarding experience for this hardworking crew," commented Commander Arturo Trejo, the U.S. vessel's commanding officer. "I can think of no better opportunity than a stop in Larnaca to experience this historic country."
USS Bulkeley, part of U.S. 6th Fleet, is in the middle of her scheduled deployment in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe operational theatre, charged with defending U.S., Allied, and partner interests. The “Griffins” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 79 are also embedded aboard the ship.
Her most notable recent action came at the start of October 2024 when she was involved in the interception of some of the 180-odd missiles launched by Iran against Israel.
