Turkish Navy Hails Successful Air Defence Missile Test
)
Turkish Navy corvette TCG Beykoz has successfully conducted the first live-fire test of the Göksur surface-to-air missile developed by Aselsan and Tübitak Sage.
The domestically-developed Point Air Defence System will constitute a key part of Turkey’s wider multi-layered “Çelik Kubbe” (Steel Dome) air defence concept.
The rolling airframe missile was launched from the vessel on Sunday off the coast of Sinop, roughly halfway along Turkey’s Black Sea coastline, as per a recent Aselsan press statement.
It has been designed to protect assets against a variety of threats including uncrewed aerial vehicles, fighter jets, helicopters, and anti-ship and cruise missiles. The Göksur system affords 360-degree protection: it can detect and neutralize threats from any direction using an infrared seeker and an AI-assisted fire-control system.
It can be used in a vertical-launch system (VLS) or fired from a turret; one possible system configuration, the 100-N variant, boasts a battery of 20 Göksur missiles. The company says the missile’s modular design, adaptability and two-way communication capabilities make it ripe for export contracts as well as its use domestically.
The Turkish Navy commented: “The success of this launch marks a milestone in Turkey's ongoing efforts to enhance its naval defence capabilities and strengthen the nation's commitment to safeguarding its maritime assets.”
