Turkey Goes Live With NAVTEX Comms System
A new continuous broadcast communications system developed by Aselsan providing critical information for ships navigating waters around Turkey has just gone live.
As per a recent press statement, Aselsan's NAVTEX (Navigational Telex) system has been activated on Turkish maritime systems
The NAVTEX systems, designed to fully dovetail with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, delivers real-time weather forecasts, maritime safety warnings, accident reports, and emergency alerts.
The software-based system combines NAVTEX and required Digital Selective Calling (DSC) distress-call capabilities in a single system, reducing infrastructure costs by minimizing the number of required antennas.
For greater efficiency the NAVTEX system can be centrally controlled and monitored, allowing messaging across multiple coastal stations. Navigation update messages are broadcasted 24/7 in both the relevant local language and in English on separate frequencies
