Swedish Navy To "Sea" Further With Giraffe
Defence firm Saab has just secured a major order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to supply its Sea Giraffe 1X naval radar to the Swedish Navy.
As per a recent company press statement, the Swedish defence firm will install its Sea Giraffe 1X naval radar system on Swedish Navy surface ships and training platforms in a deal worth approximately SEK 340 million — about £24.5 million.
The systems — which can detect, track and classify objects in the air and on the water's surface — will be installed across a three-year period starting immediately, with works scheduled to be completed during 2026. The software-defined radar can be remotely updated and can be fitted to any size of vessel, as well as autonomous platforms.
Head of Saab’s Surveillance section Carl-Johan Bergholm commented: "We are happy to continue to provide the Swedish Navy with modern radar systems. Sea Giraffe 1X will contribute in protecting costal and littoral areas and strengthen the naval units with advanced capabilities to detect, track and classify threats in the air and on the surface.”
