Defence contractor Saab has secured a deal to modernise and upgrade Sweden's land-based anti-ship missile systems.

The Swedish defence firm has bagged an SEK 800 million (about £57.5 million) deal to provide its native country with RBS15 Mk3 missiles, which are fired from trucks and can be used against naval targets at ranges of about 200km. The projectiles can also be fired from naval vessels.

The new deal signed with FMV, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, will see the system's launchers installed on a series of trucks, replacing their RBS15 Mk2 predecessors which have been in use by the Swedish armed forces since 2016.

Deliveries of the new systems, produced in collaboration with the firm's German partner Diehl Defence, will begin in 2026, as per a recent Saab press statement.

Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s Dynamics division, commented: "Sweden will receive a significant capability increase with an anti-ship missile  featuring a more advanced target seeker, increased range and a larger warhead. RBS15 is specifically developed for the complex environment and harsh weather conditions of the Baltic Sea.”
