U.K. defence firm SEA has secured a multi-million pound contract to fit its Torpedo Launcher System (TLS) to frigates for a Latin-American Navy.

The company, part of the Cohort group, recently bagged a deal with the unnamed South or Central American navy to fit its weapon-agnostic triple trainable TLS to a series of new fleet frigates.

Established for more than 60 years, SEA today has a workforce of about 450 people and has U.K. offices in Barnstaple, Beckington, and Bristol, as well as an overseas base in Quebec, Canada.

Its TLS is a rapid-reaction, close-range system which can fire a variety of different torpedoes, including the U.K. Sting Ray, the U.S. Mk44, Mk46 and Mk54, the Italian A244S, the French MU90 and the Korean Blue Shark. It can also be configured for other types as required.

SEA’s Vice President of Strategic Accounts – Latin America Neil Herbert commented: “This contract award represents a major step in our ambition to share the best of the industry’s technology with navies across the globe.

“It also proves the pedigree of our Torpedo Launcher System, and the value of weapon-agnostic defence capabilities to international navies. The TLS will provide our end user with control of its ammunition supply chain and help future-proof the new frigates ahead of new weapon developments.”
