Saab UK has just officially opened its advanced manufacturing facility for its Seaeye underwater robotics portfolio and Giraffe 1X multi-mission radar.

Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds MP visited the new three-building campus in Fareham, Hampshire, on Tuesday to perform the ceremonial opening duties, accompanied by President and CEO of Saab Micael Johansson.

As per a company press statement, among the systems being manufactured at the site is the Seaeye SR20 electric subsea remotely operated vehicle (ROV).

It will also provide support for the firms in-service radars operated by the U.K. Armed Forces: the Giraffe 1X, Giraffe AMB air defence, and TAIPAN (Arthur) artillery-locating radars.

Mr Johansson said: “This new campus is testament to Saab’s growth in the U.K., reinforcing our long-term commitment to the U.K.’s defence. Thanks to our investment here we will deliver innovative technologies and products for our customers.”

Mr Reynolds added: “This is another vote of confidence in the U.K., our world-class defence sector, and our upcoming Industrial Strategy. Saab’s investment in Hampshire has brought a major boost to local communities with hundreds of new high-paid, high-skilled jobs.”
