The Royal Navy has decided to outfit its ships with a new decoy launcher called the Ancilia. Built by Systems Engineering and Assessment, the Ancilia will replace the Seagnat system currently used on Royal Navy vessels.

Unlike its predecessor, the Ancilia is light and can manoeuvre rapidly [Royal Navy]. In combat, the Seagnat system will deploy countermeasures against incoming torpedoes and missiles. Remarking upon the Ancilia Neil Clelland, the Senior Principal Anti-Ship Missile Scientist of the British government’s Science and Technology Laboratory, said the “Ancilia provides a paradigm shift in the Royal Navy’s capability to deploy electronic warfare countermeasures to meet the threat with new more flexible tactics.” [Royal Navy]
