The Norwegian Navy is wrapping up a ten-day exercise aimed at improving its reaction to threats to critical undersea infrastructure (CUI).

Exercise Counter Sabotage, which concludes today (Friday), has been conducted in the Bergen area and has been run jointly by Norwegian Mine Diver Command (MDK) and the Norwegian Navy.

As per a recent press statement by Forsvaret, the Norwegian Armed Forces: “The main objective of this exercise is to train specialized maritime units in explosive ordnance disposal in situations characterized by hybrid threats.

“An important part of the exercise is to increase understanding and knowledge of the issues surrounding sabotage against critical infrastructure.”

As well as the Norwegian Navy and police units, partner organisations from Sweden have also been involved in the ten-day operation.

The statement noted: “The exercise also covers key preparations for the breadth of specialist skills for deployment, ensuring that personnel are well equipped and trained to meet challenges nationally and internationally.
