REPMUS 2024Defence firm Navy Leaders has strengthened its position at the forefront of helping global navies deliver cutting-edge capabilities by developing a partnership with a key annual technology exercise.

The rapidly-growing company is working with the Portuguese Navy to become an official partner of REPMUS — Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping using Maritime Unmanned Systems.

Hosted annually by the Portuguese Navy, the exercise, with a strong NATO footprint, has grown in size and complexity to become the world’s premier test environment to develop the latest capabilities in unmanned maritime aerial, surface and submarine autonomous systems (UxVs).

Bringing together military forces, technology firms, supranational organisations, academia and government development agencies, the 14th iteration of the three-week exercise is running this year between September 9 and 27.

This year more than 2,000 participants from 21 countries are collaborating in what has become the world's largest international drone exercise; a further nine countries are also acting as observers.

Based out of Troia at the Portuguese Navy Operational Experimentation Centre (CEOM) just south of Lisbon, the other partners involved in organising the exercise are Oporto University (FEUP), NATO’s Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) and Joint Capability Group Maritime Unmanned Systems (JCGMUS), and the European Defence Agency (EDA) .

The event’s focus on emerging technology made it the perfect fit for Navy Leaders, which together with its sister brand Defence Leaders produces six highly-regarded annual events for the defence sector.

In the naval domain it hosts three events annually: Naval Damage Control (NDC), hosted next month in Southampton, England; Navy Tech (NT), taking place next February in Helsinki, Finland; and its flagship show, the Combined Naval Event (CNE) in May in Farnborough, England — the largest annual naval event in Europe.

Its track record of hosting industry-leading events bringing together navies, procurement agencies, academics and industry partners makes it a perfect match for REPMUS."

A Navy Leaders spokesman commented: “Joining the event as a future potential partner enables us to engage with the unmanned and maritime community in the largest MUS exercise worldwide."

“Navy Leaders is committed to fostering innovation and technological leadership, collaborating with naval forces globally to shape the future of the UxV arena. With its extensive experience and international network, Navy Leaders brings a wealth of expertise to this team.”
