The U.S. Navy’s Central Command has released footage of air strikes being launched against Houthi rebel positions in Yemen.

The video footage, released via the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service, shows missiles being launched from the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg against the Iran-backed Houthis on Saturday.

A remark posted to one of the U.S. Navy’s social media channels said the action was “demonstrating America’s unwavering resolve in defending freedom of navigation around the world.”

The location from which USS Gettysburg launched the strikes was not disclosed; however she forms part of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (CSG). Her commanding officer is currently Captain John Lucas, who took over the role from Capt. Justin Hodges during an at-sea change of command ceremony on January 30.

The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HSTCSG) entered the U.S. Central command area of responsibility in mid-December 2024.

As well as USS Gettysburg and the flagship Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman — including Carrier Air Wing 1 with nine embarked aviation squadrons — HSTCSG also consists of two Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers, USS Stout and USS Jason Dunham.

HSTCSG’s area of operations includes the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea, and parts of the Indian Ocean, including three key choke points: the Strait of Hormuz, the Suez Canal and the Strait of Bab al-Mandeb.
