Lockheed Martin will supply the U.S. Navy, the Royal Australian Navy and other friendly nations with torpedo guidance systems under the terms of a $245 million extended contract awarded by U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).

As per a recent company press statement, under the terms of the deal the defence contractor will supply guidance and control packages for MK-48 Mod 7 heavyweight torpedoes, with the contract due to be fulfilled by September 2027.  Earlier this year, Lockheed Martin reached a milestone when it delivered its 100th MK-48 guidance and control section.

RMS Vice President of Undersea Warfare at Lockheed Martin Tom Warner commented: “This contract extension for the MK-48 Guidance and Control program is a testament to Lockheed Martin’s ability to aggressively revitalize a once-dormant technology, delivering more guidance and control sections at a faster production rate."

He added: “Our dedicated team is fully committed to continuing the production of these essential systems, ensuring the U.S. Navy and our allied nations have the technology they need to maintain their edge in an ever-changing global landscape.”
